Feats difficult to equal

On May 3, 2009, Manny "the Pacman" Pacquiao made history again for the Philippines and the boxing world. He defeated Ricky Hatton in a fashion we never even imagined. Knocked down Hatton twice on the first round and knocked him out cold in the second round. Pacquiao has won a record of championships in different weight divisions, unprecedented in Philippine boxing. He has proven himself to be the best pound-for-pound boxer. Before him, the Philippines also had a world class athlete in the person of Rafael "Paeng" Nepomuceno! His consecutive wins in World Ten-pin Bowling championship, I believe, still remains unbroken. In the 1990s, he won three championships in that decade and also remains unsurpassed, I believe. Within those times of Nepomuceno, Efren "Bata" Reyes also carved a name for himself in pool/billiards. He was considered one of the best if not the best pool players when he was still actively competing. Filipinos excel in sports where height and weight does not matter. It is their skill in some of those sports that show. The focus, dedication and the will to win is in their game plan. |
