F1 Car Aerodynamics

By Ruben Austria

At the onset of the 2009 Formula 1 GP, it was obvious to me that the Brawn-Mercedes had wider and longer nose cone bent downward. No other race car had a similar nose cone for aerodynamics. It proved good to win first in almost all races until the latest in Silverstone where Red Bull won first place. Noticeably, the Red Bull cars had a wider front cone but more angled compared to the smooth curve of the Brawn-Mercedes.

It is just amazing why participants in F1 so-called "technicians" failed to take note of this. It is almost unbelievable that Red Bull powered by Renault engine outdoes the manufacturers racing team. So goes with Brawn outdoing Mercedes-McLaren!

Maybe on the next race, we will see more development on the nose cones of other teams. The technicians are not thinking "outside-the-box". There's a lot more to consider when they do their tests in the wind tunnel. They miss a lot on other factors on what could be the cutting edge in winning Formula 1 races.
